The Background
Pioneer Supply Company, with locations in Pittsburgh, New Jersey, and Maryland, is a small business that has grown to become the largest distributor of supplies, materials, and tools for sign makers and screen printers in the Tri-State Area..
The Challenge
Paul Gelorme is the Controller of Pioneer Supply Company. He explains that as a smaller company, the economy was taking a toll, and they were forced to keep costs and staff levels down. Although their hardware and server were old and obsolete, from a financial standpoint, it was not the best time to consider upgrading the server or adding new hardware. However, they knew they had to do something as they were simply out of server space.
Pioneer Supply does not have an on-site IT department. For ten years, they had been working with a vendor for their IT needs. Unfortunately, the relationship had gone stale as the vendor became unresponsive. Meanwhile, the server was at 97% capacity and had to be constantly patched and monitored. Employees lost a lot time stopping to find files they were no longer using and deleting anything they could to increase disc space. When this became a daily occurrence, the company knew they had to find another vendor because if the server crashed, the company would be blown out of the water as the server was so old it was difficult to find replacement parts for it.
Pioneer Supply knew they needed a vendor to be available 24/7 and provide remote monitoring and remediation designed to ensure the highest standard of systems availability to meet its business needs.
The Solution
SHI, a hardware vendor who uses Nortec, came to Pioneer Supply and recommended Nortec. Nortec came in for a consultation, analyzed the project and made recommendations, including an upgrade of the server, hardware, and Exchange transition software. Based on Nortec’s advice, Pioneer Supply purchased the hardware and software and Nortec came in and implemented the new system.
Gelorme notes that Nortec was extremely proactive and needed little direction. To minimize the effect on employees at Pioneer Supply, Nortec’s people would start early in the morning and accomplish as much as they could remotely, so that only a minimum had to be conducted onsite. This meant there was virtually no down time for Pioneer Staff during the implementation. Gelorme was impressed that other than a few glitches along the way, Nortec handled everything remotely and quickly.
Now, the business is constantly connected to Nortec’s professional team and if necessary, Nortec sends a technician to the site to remediate any issues that may arise. Nortec has provided the company with effective IT consultation and service that meets their budgetary requirements.
The Benefits
Nortec has given Pioneer Supply a whole new level of stability. The server and systems are up and running as much as possible. In addition, Pioneer Supply is now in a position to upgrade software because their equipment is no longer obsolete. Everything, including email, is faster and employees don’t lose time trying to find space. Now that operations have been normalized, the company can look forward to future growth.
