The Background
Vistronix, Inc., is a leading consulting and strategic outsourcing company serving
government agencies and other organizations. Vistronix chose Nortec to replace a
legacy phone system with a state-of-art Shoreline IP Telephony system, improving
usage, expandability and ultimately cost of operation.
Vistronix founded in 1990, based in McLean, Virginia, with offices located throughout
the United States, is one of the countries leading consulting and strategic outsourcing
firms in the United States in the areas of Content Management, Records, Document
and Mail Management, Help Desk, Database Management, Enterprise Architecture,
Enterprise Application Development and Integration and Grants Management,
Proprietary Web-based Framework, Application Procession, Accountability & Data
Quality, and funds Reconciliation and Tracking.
The Challenge
Vistronix needed to replace their existing legacy telephone system. They needed a
system that could be expanded quickly at a reasonable expense. The legacy system
was becoming increasingly difficult to administer from a support point of view, and
expansion capability was almost non-existent. After reviewing a number of solutions
Vistronix’s chose the Shoreline Distributed IP Voice Architecture.
“From the initial requirements analysis and business process changes to rolling out the
final solution, Nortec was there for Vistronix. Their work was of the highest quality, it was
completed on schedule and on budget. We have already seen a great amount of ease in
management of the new IP Telephony System over the legacy system. The project has been
beneficial for Vistronix and will greatly enhance our ability for future expansio,.”
Bobby Barts, MIS Manager - Vistronix
The Solution
Vistronix and Nortec selected the Shoreline IP telephony system because of its
scalability, expansion capabilities and high quality voice connections, an outstanding
fit for the business requirements. Vistronix and Nortec used an integrated team
approach for the installation. Two IT engineers from Vistronix and two telephony
consultants from Nortec were assigned. The same team were involved, end-to-end.
Nortec offered commitment, trust, and most importantly, accountability to the
Vistronix project. The team delivered an installation that was completed with an
extremely smooth transition from the legacy system to the Shoreline VoIP system.
The system, in its fourth major release, provides a distributed architecture creating a
highly available voice system where each switch is a peer. This allows the switch to
function as a standalone IP PBX when necessary to cover for any failure in the network.
The equipment was purchased, configured, tested, installed and was up and running
within 24 hours from the beginning of the installation. Shoreline provided web user
interface training for the administrators to learn the procedures for managing and
operating the system. The equipment was configured at the Nortec offices then
transported to Vistronix for installation. This included time for pre-coordination,
planning, and testing prior to installation.
Benefits
The result for Vistronix was a state-of-art VoIP system which is easily managed from
ShoreWare software composed of Distributed Call Control, Voice Application, Desktop
Application and Management Software. Future expansion of the system will be easily
handled in both cost and procedure due to the scalability of the ShoreGear switches
and IP telephones sets.
Vistronix wanted the implementation to happen as quickly and seamlessly as possible.
The key to success was the upfront investment in pre-coordination, planning and
training. Those key steps made the entire implementation an extremely smooth
transition from the legacy system to a state of the art VoIP Telephony system.
