Microsoft – what’s new in 2012

The future of Microsoft empowers users to be productive from anywhere and on whatever device they choose. Here are some of the innovations Microsoft will be delivering in 2012.

Microsoft Forefront provides comprehensive, end-to-end solutions, both on-premises and in the cloud, to help protect users and enable secure access virtually anywhere. With integrated portfolio of protection, identity, and access products, you can help secure your environment and manage access across data, users, and systems.

Integration with Microsoft Lync 2010 collaboration and communication services: Allows users to schedule and participate in online meetings, use dynamic conferencing capabilities, and collaborate with features like online white-boarding. Integrating Lync and Office provides users with in-context access to the instant messaging (IM), enhanced presence, telephony, and conferencing capabilities of Lync. Office users can access Lync features from within the Microsoft Outlook messaging and collaboration client and other Office programs or from a SharePoint Server page. Users can also view a record of Lync conversations in the Outlook Conversation History folder.

System Center 2012 will include components such as Orchestrator, (Microsoft’s workflow orchestration tool) and AppController. In addition, System Center 2012 will include many new enhancements to existing products such as Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2012 which will have dynamic optimization and power optimization to perform resource balancing between cluster hosts or automatically turn hosts off or on as needed. Users will be able to create a Private Cloud by combining hosts, networking and storage resources to be managed together. Storage management will be made possible through the use of SMI-S and tools such as Self Service Portal (SSP) for deploying VMs and services have been integrated into the VMM management console.
