Meet Thomas Wang, Network Administrator for Nortec. Read on to learn why Thomas’ background makes him uniquely positioned to address the health of your organization’s network.

Q: Tell us a little about your job.

A: I’ve been with Nortec about a month. I have a background in the healthcare field – in occupational therapy – but I changed to IT. I chose Nortec because we have a great reputation and it gave me an opportunity to hone my skills working on a wide variety of projects.

Q: Tell us a little about your job.

A: I work on maintaining client’s workstations with security updates, day-to-day, following up with help desk tickets, creating network maps, and back-up checks. A little bit of everything.

Q: Why do clients choose a managed service like a Help Desk?

A: Not everyone has the technical ability to take care of the issues that come up in an organization and not every company can afford to hire a dedicated IT professional on staff.

Q: Is there a typical client?

A:  We have large and small companies. Larger companies might not have the manpower to fully support its IT needs, so splitting up the work with a provider like Nortec can be advantageous. Backup help is particularly common in this.

Q: How can an organization decide if a managed service like a help desk is right for them?

A:  Count up how many hours you spend on a monthly or annual basis dealing with tech issues or support, and compare to the price to what a managed service provider would charge. Most often, the provider can save you a lot of money.

Q: What would your co-workers be surprised to learn about you?

A:  I’m currently going to back to school for my Master’s in cybersecurity and I don’t come from a typical IT background.
