- About Nortec
For nearly a century, customers have relied on Chromalox for the utmost in quality and innovative solutions for industrial heating applications. Chromalox manufactures the world’s largest and broadest line of electric heat and control products, including heating components, immersion heaters, circulation systems, heat transfer systems, boilers, industrial and comfort air heating, heat trace cables, sensors and precision electronic controls.
Factory offices, stocking representatives, and more 2,000 authorized distributors around the world carry Chromalox heating components and controls. Chromalox has manufacturing facilities in the United States, Mexico, and Europe, as well as multiple engineering, warehousing and sales locations throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Chromalox, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is truly a global supplier providing the highest level of customer support.
Chromalox is a mid-sized manufacturer with 1200 employees spread out across four locations in North America, 2 locations in Europe, and one location in Asia. The organization was looking for a collaboration and presence solution for meetings to help cut down on travel costs and enhance overall communications between the locations. In the past, Chromalox had researched the possibility of videoconferencing, but price was prohibitive.
Chromalox had previously worked with Nortec on other projects and met periodically with Nortec engineers to discuss technology solutions for their communication issues. “Nortec always kept us updated on the latest technologies available – they knew we wanted to implement a video conferencing solution, so when LifeSize became available, Nortec let us know” said Dan Boehm, Director of IT at Chromalox.
Chromalox appreciated the breadth of LifeSize and the price point was extremely attractive. Nortec performed a proof-of-concept installation before installing LifeSize at Chromalox’s headquarters. Dan Boehm, Director of IT at Chromalox, was extremely pleased with how smoothly installation went: “the engineer who implemented the solution was very knowledgeable and very capable. The experience impressed upon me that this is an organization that really knows the product and does more than just take orders.”
Chromalox has estimated that the LifeSize solution will save an upwards of 10% on travel costs. With no delay or “talking head” occurrences, videoconferencing has been a great experience for everyone involved. The company is looking to roll out LifeSize to their Utah, France and UK operations. Chromalox will also be considering other technology projects with Nortec such as MS Lync.
