Is fall cancelled? | Forge a resilient business
Run a Modern, Resilient Business
Delta is raging; it’s impossible to know when another variant will emerge. Regulations are handed down with little notice forcing businesses to react. Our new, new normal requires all of us to decide how we’re going to manage an ongoing pandemic. Businesses that survive in this environment will be the ones that can quickly pivot without losing productivity.
Major tech companies like Apple and Twitter have this figured out. They delayed plans to return to the office, again. It’s a move they could make because their corporate workers use cloud-based platforms. You don’t need their IT budget to gain this level of resiliency.
Our recent article shares ways you can affordably build a resilient, modern business that sets you up to succeed in the new, new normal — or whatever new normal comes next.

1. What do you do at Nortec?
I provide technical support and consulting to Nortec clients. This includes anything from individual device support to Microsoft 365 and Azure configurations. I really enjoy the range of technologies that I get to work with.
2. What do you like about your role?
My role is very customer focused. I have greatly enjoyed building relationships with Nortec clients, which in turn, increases my effectiveness as I gain a better understanding of what a particular client may need. Experiencing technical issues can be extremely frustrating, so it is very satisfying to be able to solve issues quickly and allow others to return to their own objectives.
3. What do you like about working at Nortec?
The best part about working at Nortec is the teamwork. Everyone from the help desk to senior leadership is focused on providing the best possible service to our clients. Our ability to do that is multiplied when everyone is on the same page and always willing to lend a hand where needed.
4. What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this fall or winter?
I am very much looking forward to visiting Florida this fall. I do a lot of fishing here in Northern Virginia and on the Chesapeake Bay and will be getting my first opportunity to go deep sea fishing while down there.
5. What is something that love to do for fun?
My favorite activities are boating, kayaking and fishing. I spend a lot of time in the Chesapeake Bay on and around Kent Island where there is no shortage of opportunities to get out on the water. For me, it’s very difficult to beat a weekend at the Bay.
If You’ve Avoided a Cybersecurity Breach, It’s Luck

Information-intensive businesses can’t afford a laid-back approach to cybersecurity. Between your client data, employee information, financial records and other sensitive documents, you are a gold mine for cybercriminals. These criminals, by the way, don’t need to be particularly savvy.
Even mediocre hackers can hit the jackpot if a distracted employee accidentally clicks on a malicious link. And these days, who isn’t distracted? Here’s how to outsmart the hackers.

Frequent IT outages are a frustrating time-sink. Not just for your IT staff, but also for your workforce. It’s often a sign of a bigger problem. That’s what happened with Van Metre Company. A server going out in one location brought all of their locations to a standstill and sent their IT team driving all over Metro D.C. to fix them.
They approached Nortec to get help stopping the constant outages in a way that wouldn’t involve their tech support driving around the city all the time. Here’s how we did it.
