How to Simplify & Strengthen Your Business’ Security in 2020

The fresh start to the year brings countless resolutions to break bad habits or reverse preconceived notions. Some are easier to keep than others – especially ones that don’t involve heading to the gym. Changing how you think about Microsoft’s security capabilities falls squarely in the “easy to keep” category.

Microsoft says it detects 5 billion cyber incidents each month and protects against over 99% of those threats. These robust security capabilities factor into why Gartner placed Microsoft in the Leader quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Access Security End Point Protection (EPP).

Microsoft’s dominance and the quality of its solutions helped propel the company to the Leader quadrant. In the report, Gartner highlighted Microsoft as “unique in the EPP space” because they’re“the only vendor that can provide built-in endpoint protection capabilities tightly integrated with the OS.”

Meet the Team: Darren Holdren

For this quarter’s Meet the Team, Darren Holdren, Field Services Manager took a few minutes away from helping clients to answer our questions.

1. Why did you choose a career in IT?

When I was young, I loved taking stuff apart – like my toys or my father’s tools (to his dismay).Later, I started building computers and got my degree in IT Technology. The rest is history.

2. How would you describe your role at Nortec?

From training people on Microsoft Teams and Office 365 to learning how to setup complete IT infrastructures, I’m involved with different facets of the IT world. During a typical day, I can be found troubleshooting client and internal issues, managing projects, scheduling and managing of our consultants and improving internal policies.

3. Is there an IT tip or best practice you wish more organizations knew about?

Keep security top of mind!Too many people don’t take advantage of security tools we provide, like multi-factor authentication and our training on how to spot malicious emails.

4. What’s one resolution you made (personally or professionally) for 2020?

Professionally, I plan on following up on and expanding my IT certifications to provide a broader wheelhouse of skills for our clients. Personally, my wife and I are looking to start training for a full Ironman (We have already finished a half Ironman!). Maybe we’re gluttons for punishment…

5. Where can people find you when you aren’t at work?

Climbing or hiking. My wife and I are avid outdoors people. We love going to the mountains to either climb sheerwalls or hike up to a summit. Nature provides us with many beautiful and amazing things; it would be a shame not to take advantage of them. It also provides a way to remove ourselves from the daily hustle and bustle.
