Silver Spring
Silver Spring is a region in the state of Maryland located in the county of Montgomery. The region is unincorporated and has a population of over 80 thousand people. This makes it the fourth most highly populated region in the state of Maryland.
Starting in 2004, the downtown area began to surge in popularity, growing into a place with a thriving urban center. The region derives its name from a spring flecked with mica, causing it to have flashes of silver. This spring is thought to have originally been located in the area now known as Acorn Park.

Silver Spring has four major creeks that run through it – Rock Creek, Sligo Creek, Long Branch, and Northwest Branch. Each is surrounded by outdoor recreation areas that include parks, picnic tables, and places to hike and bike.
The region was originally inhabited by indiginous people for over 10 thousand years. Prior to being colonized by the European, the area was the home of the Piscataway people.
These days, Silver Spring is a cultural center that is famous for its many festivals. The most notable of these is the Silverdocs festival, a documentary film festival held every June. The Silver Spring Jazz Festival is another cultural event that draws many visitors and locals.
